# Terms of Service

SpinTheList is a free web tool. These terms say what you can expect from us and what we expect from you. They are written in plain language on purpose, and they mean what they say.

## Using the site

The wheel, the bracket maker and every page on the site are free to use, for anything, including work and commercial projects. No account is needed for the core tool. You may embed the wheel on your own site, put it on a stream, or show it to a room full of people without asking us.

Signing in with Google is optional. It exists so you can keep permanent links to your wheels and brackets. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your Google account secure.


## What you save

Saved links hold content you wrote: list entries, contestant names, titles and custom slugs. That content stays yours. By saving it you give us permission to store it and to serve it to anyone who opens the link, which is the only way a shared link can work.

What you save has to be lawful. Do not save content that infringes someone else's copyright or trademark, that harasses or targets a private person, that is sexual content involving minors, that promotes violence, or that is illegal where you are. Do not use a custom slug to impersonate a brand or a person.

We can remove a link, a slug or an account that breaks these rules, and we can do it without warning if the content is clearly harmful. If you think we got it wrong, email us and we will look again.


## Public links

Anyone can make a short link, with or without an account. Saved links are public by default: anyone who has the address can open one, and search engines can find it if someone posts it. Do not put anything private in a wheel you save publicly. Private links need an account: you can switch one to private in My links, and a private link opens only for you.

A link made while signed out is deleted 30 days after it was created, whether or not anyone opens it. A link made while signed in stays until you delete it or delete your account. There is a daily limit on how many links one visitor can make without signing in.


## Availability and your data

This is a free service and we cannot promise it will always be up, always be fast, or always keep your saved links. Features can change, and pages can move or disappear. If a list matters to you, export it: the wheel has an export option, brackets can be saved as an image or printed, and [your account page](https://spinthelist.com/account) can download everything you have saved as one file.

You can delete your account at any time from the same page. Deleting removes your profile and every link you saved, and it cannot be undone.


## Fair use

The endpoints behind the site are rate limited so one heavy user cannot slow the site down for everyone else. Do not try to work around those limits, and do not run scripts that create links in bulk or hammer the site with automated traffic.

Do not scrape other people's saved links, enumerate link addresses, or collect content other users have published. Normal use, including embedding a wheel and sharing links with an audience, is always fine.


## Our content

The site name, logo, page copy and code are ours. You are welcome to link to any page, quote from it with credit, and use the embed widget as it is provided. Please do not copy the site wholesale or pass it off as your own product.


## No warranty, and the limit of our liability

The service is provided as is. We do our best to make every spin fair and every page work, and you can read exactly how the randomness works on the [fairness audit](https://spinthelist.com/fairness), but we make no guarantee that the site is free of bugs or fit for any particular purpose.

In plain words: if the site is down, loses a list, or produces a result you did not want, we are not liable for what follows, including lost time, lost data, lost income or a disputed prize draw. Use your own judgement for anything that carries real consequences, and keep your own record of results that matter.


## Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, the effective date at the top of the page changes with them. Continuing to use the site after that means the new version applies.


## Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction].
